Debt, The First 5,000 Years, David Graeber in conversation with Charlie Rose
Introduction by Maria on TucRadio to the interview that showed up on YouTube in late December 2021.
In this 23 minute clip Charlie Rose is asking Graeber about Debt, Occupy Wall Street, Democracy, and Capitalism.
It is a puzzling contradiction that paying debts is perceived as an ultimate moral value, higher than human lives, while at the same time money lenders are seen as evil. The forgiving of debts is sacred according to the Bible, not paying them. Since the 1970s it has been one crisis after the other. Underlying issues were ignored during the 2008 crisis. Money runs the system. Current system with its violent bureaucracy is not really a democracy. It is kleptocracy at best. Legalising bribery does not eliminate corruption.
